7 Delicious Hot Drinks to Make at Home

Imagine: It’s a crisp morning and you don’t have to rush anywhere. You have time to sit, maybe read or scroll. Now, add a deliciously cozy drink and you’ve got the perfect day. Until you realize, you have to leave your house and wait in a drive thru. Or do you?

Whether non-alcoholic or spiked, there’s something about a hot drink in the perfect cup that just sets the mood for the season. That mood does not include long lines. Instead, make your favorite hot drinks at home!

To help inspire you, we’ve compiled our favorite recipes of hot drinks to make at home and added a list of our top BruMate tumblers to pair them with.

1. Cinnamon Maple Matcha Latte

If you are looking for a mellow and sweet drink that will warm your heart, you’ve found it.

To make this drink, you will need:

  • 1-2 teaspoons of matcha powder

  • ¼ cup of hot water

  • ½-1 tablespoon of maple syrup (depending on sweetness preference)

  • 1 cup of hot milk of your choice

  • 1-2 teaspoons of cinnamon powder

Start by sifting your matcha, to ensure there are no lumps. Then add the hot water and whisk until fully mixed. Be sure the water is not boiling – it will burn your tea! Once the matcha is fully mixed, add in your desired amount of maple syrup and stir/whisk until combined. Take your preheated milk, add your cinnamon and either mix together or froth. Pour the milk over your matcha and sprinkle with cinnamon. For a little spike, add in your desired amount of vodka or rum.

2. Caramel Apple Cider

This drink combines two classic fall flavors into one delicious sip!

To make this drink, you will need:

  • 1 -1.5 cups of apple cider (store bought or homemade)

  • 1 apple disc

  • Caramel syrup

  • Cinnamon

  • Whipped cream (optional)

  • 1 tbsp vanilla syrup (optional)

To start, heat your apple cider. While your cider is heating, core and slice an apple into discs. Place one disc at the bottom of your favorite cup and lightly sprinkle with cinnamon and caramel sauce. If using, add in your vanilla syrup. Once your apple cider is nice and toasty, pour it over your cinnamon-sprinkled apple disc and gently stir. Top with whipped cream, a pinch of cinnamon, and another drizzle of caramel sauce.

3. Hot Chocolate

If we are being honest, hot chocolate is amazing year round. Making a whole batch, though, can be a pain. Did you know you can make a single serving?

To make a single serving of hot chocolate, you will need:

  • 1.5-2 cups of milk of your choice

  • 1 tablespoon of sugar or alternative sweetener

  • 3 teaspoons of cocoa powder

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla syrup

  • Whipped cream

Preheat the milk on the stove (or microwave if you are in a hurry). Once hot, pour into your cup, add in the cocoa powder, sweetener, and vanilla syrup. Mix well to ensure everything is combined. Top with whipped cream (duh).

4. Pumpkin Chai Latte

This drink combines the spice of chai with the earthiness of pumpkin, redefining the term “pumpkin spice”.

To make this drink, you will need:

  • 1-2 Chai tea bags (or you can make your own if you’re feeling fancy)

  • 1 cup of your choice of milk, warmed

  • 3-4 tablespoons of pumpkin puree

  • 2-3 tablespoons of the sweetener of your choice

If using your own tea bags, pour boiling water over the tea bag and steep for the amount of time specified. While the tea is steeping, heat your milk. Once the tea is steeped you can choose to remove the tea bag or leave it in for extra flavor. Add the pumpkin and sweetener to the milk and stir well to combine. Pour the milk combination over the tea and stir gently to combine. Sip and enjoy!

5. Cinnamon Hot Toddy

A spicy twist on a beloved classic.

For this drink, you will need:

  • 1.5-2 ounces of cinnamon whiskey

  • Honey, to taste

  • 1-2 lemon slices

  • 1 Cinnamon stick or 1-2 teaspoons of cinnamon powder

  • 1.5-2 cups of hot water

To make this classic drink, combine the whiskey, honey, lemon, and cinnamon. Pour the hot water over top and allow it to steep for a few minutes prior to drinking. For a nonalcoholic version, simply leave out the whiskey and add a tea bag, or leave it as is!

6. Apple Pie Cider

For a cozy night in, you’ll love this cocktail version of the classic apple pie!

All you will need is:

  • 1 cup apple cider (homemade or store bought), warmed

  • 1.5-2 ounces of bourbon (omit for non-alcoholic)

  • ½-1 tablespoon vanilla syrup

  • Whipped Cream

  • Cinnamon

This is one of the simplest recipes! Heat your apple cider then add in your bourbon. Mix well and top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Sit back and enjoy!

7. Peppermint Hot Chocolate

The classic tastes of winter combined for a crisp and chocolatey fusion.

To make this classic drink, you will need:

  • 1-1.5 cups of pre-made hot chocolate

  • 1.5 - 2 ounces of peppermint liquor

or

  • 1 tablespoon Peppermint syrup

Heat your favorite hot chocolate up – see our single serving recipe in #3 – and add in a shot or two of your favorite peppermint liquor or syrup. To enhance your hot chocolate, top with whipped cream and drizzle with caramel or chocolate syrup.
